Last weekend there was a new episode of Billions on Showtime. Billions is about a billionaire hedge fund manager, Bobby “Axe” Axelrod, and a US Attorney, Chuck Rhoades, that is after him. This episode was a case study on how women can open you up to manipulation, not just from women, but from other men as well.
The first example from this episode was how Axe manipulated another hedge fund manager. The other hedge fund manager was “broke” due to his own actions. “Broke” in this case means that the other hedge fund manager only had 40 million dollars. Axe reminds the other hedge fund manager about his daughter’s private school, horse, and his multiple properties. The real reason that the other hedge fund manager can’t live on 40 million is his wife and daughter. Axe makes a deal with the other hedge fund manager to prop him up, but at the end of the episode Axe changes the deal to be more favorable to him. The other hedge fund manager just has to accept the changes because otherwise his wife will divorce him.
The second example involved Chuck’s (former) best friend Ira. Ira had invested in this ice juice company that went IPO. Chuck manipulated it so that Axe would attack the ice juice company with the goal of using it against Axe. Axe played into it by paying people to pretend that ice juice made them sick. As a result Ira had a pending law suit against Axe. While this was going on, Ira had a girlfriend he wanted to propose to but couldn’t because she was a gold digger and only into Ira for his money. (There is a scene in this episode demonstrating the degree to which she was a gold digger where she adds a lot of white truffles to her pasta at an expensive restaurant while Ira looks like he is about to have a heart attack with the amount of money he is spending.)
Later in the episode Axe offers a deal to Ira where he will buy Ira’s now worthless ice juice shares for 30 million dollars and his testimony against Chuck. To make sure Ira goes for it Axe meets Ira at a jeweler (as in engagement rings) to remind Ira of how he can’t propose to his girlfriend because he lost most of his money. Ira takes the deal rather than let his law suit against Axe proceed because he is too much of a mangina to dump his gold digger girlfriend. Like the hedge fund manager, Ira still had plenty of money, just not enough to impress the women in his life.
In both of these cases neither man was manipulated by a woman. Yet, their desire to be manginas caused them to get manipulated by another man. Women open you up to manipulation not just from them, but from other men as well. The lesson that should be learned is that the way to have any control whatsoever over your own life is to completely remove women from your life.
